Entries for KM Kent Cooks must be made by an adult with the knowledge and permission of the parent, guardian or teacher of the child or young person being nominated for the event.
All words, photos and images submitted in connection with an entry become the ownership of the KM Charity Team and can be used for publicity purposes, including possible future publications such as cook books and calendars.
All profits from these ventures remain in total with the KM Charity Team to enable it to further its charitable and community projects.
Video entries must be made available to the KM Charity Team to use for publicity purposes including publication on KM Charity Team websites and community events.
No entries must be made relating to children or young people where child protection issues are a factor or where domestic abuse cases might identify the location of the family as the publicity surrounding a young chef's success in the competition could lead to the child or family being put at risk.
In order to qualify as a finalist, children must adhere to these rules.
Primary school children should be aged from 6 to 11 years and should cook one dish using a budget of no more than £2.50 per serving. They will need to prepare their dish independently within 90 minutes. Finalists will be reimbursed for ingredients to the value of £5.00 (as they will be required to cook 2 servings of their dish).
Secondary school children should be aged from 11 to 19 and should cook two dishes using a budget of no more than £5.00 for both servings. They will need to cook both dishes unassisted at the final and prepare and cook both dishes in 120 minutes. Finalists will be reimbursed for ingredients to the value £10.00 (as they will be required to cook 2 servings of each dish)
Children entering the Family Category should be aged from 6 to 19 years and will need to cook two dishes alongside a parent /carer using a budget of no more than £5.00 for both servings.They will need to prepare and cook both dishes in 120 minutes. Finalists will be reimbursed for ingredients to the value of £10.00 (as they will be required to cook 2 servings of each dish).
Note: The maximum reimbursement Kent Cooks event organisers will provide is £5.00 for primary entrants and £10.00 for secondary and family entrants. This reimbursement is only provided for the 13 students taking place in the live cook-off final staged in November.
Each entrant will have a student mentor to assist in preparation and cooking of the dish.
Those short-listed to attend the final at East Kent College on November 30, 2017, must attend at their own expense (travel, parking).
All finalists must cook the same dish(es) at the final that they have been short-listed for unless otherwise agreed with KM Charity Team
Finalists are responsible for providing the correct ingredients and quantities, so it is recommended that this process is supervised by an adult.
All finalists must cook two of each of their dishes - one for the judges to taste one for presentation purposes. Please bring enough ingredients to cook your dish or dishes twice.
All finalists in the primary and secondary category must cook their dish (es) unaided by carers and parents.
Judging will be conducted by a panel of sponsors and experts. The judges decision is final.
